The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating Monday night’s crash of a Piper Malibu plane in Dawsonville, Ga.  The plane, registered in Georgia, had taken off from Morristown Airport, according to news reports. The pilot, whose identity has not been released, was killed. No others were aboard.

Fox News in Atlanta reports that a distress call was received between 7 pm and 7:30 pm, shortly before the aircraft crashed in a wooded area behind a home in Dawson County.

An FAA spokesman told The Star-Ledger  that the plane’s destination was DeKalb-Peachtree Airport in Chamblee, Ga., near Atlanta. The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating.
