THURSDAY, NOV. 14, 2013

Hey, LEGO lovers, get ready for the return of Nathan Sawaya and his LEGO sculptures at the Morris Museum. ART OF THE BRICK® features large-scale sculptures built from every kid’s favorite building block. Sculptures range from whimsical and fun to contemporary and complex. Kids of all ages are welcome beginning at 11 am and running through the winter. The Morris Museum is at 6 Normandy Heights Road in Morris Township. All visitors who pay admission to the museum are welcome.

The piano movie series continues at the Morristown & Township Library with The Piano Lesson at 6:30 pm. An unexpected story of family heirlooms and the lessons we have to learn about life and greed, this film stars Charles S. Dutton, Alfred Woodard, and Carl Gordon. Rated PG, 95 minutes. Refreshments will be served.

Anchors Aweigh! The North Jersey American Revolution Round Table theme this week is entitled:  If By Sea: The Forging of the American Navy from the American Revolution to the Way of 1812. The featured speaker is War of 1812 expert and author George C. Daughan, who will discuss how the fledgling American Navy faced its powerful British counterpart. The meeting kicks off at 7:14 pm at the Washington’s Headquarters Museum Auditorium, at 30 Washington Place in Morristown. Admission is free.

An Intimate Evening with Clint Black: AcousticRaising a teen may seem overwhelming, but licensed clinical worker Renee Jacobs is here to make your life easier. An expert in teenaged development, Jacobs will lead the discussion about the challenges of raising teens today, at the Morristown Jewish Center Beit Yisreal. This free talk begins at 7:30 pm at 177 Speedwell Ave.
Clint Black takes center stage at the Morristown Performing Arts Center at 8 pm. A leading country singer since his debut album in 1989, he’s expected to perform such hits as A Better Man and Killin’ Time. Tickets are $39-$69. Call 973-539-8008 for more information.

 

 


FRIDAY, NOV. 15:

'The Hunchback of Notre Dame' at St. Peter'sThe Presbyterian Church in Morristown presents An American Songbook Recital, the second concert of the Fridays-on-the-Green lunchtime concert series.  Soprano Elise Figa, tenor Jayson Greenberg and pianist Matthew Webb perform popular songs from Cole Porter to Stephen Sondheim. The concert begins at noon in the Sanctuary at 57 Park Place. A catered lunch is available after the concert for $7.

Lon Chaney, The Man of a Thousand Faces, brings one of his greatest roles to Morristown when The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1923) staggers across the screen at 7 pm in St. Peter’s Episcopal Church.  Joshua Stafford will accompany this silent classic on the church’s 1930 Skinner organ. Adults: $15; students, $10; children under 10, free. Tickets available at the door, or call 973-538-0555 x 10. Free popcorn with admission.

Raised on Tom Lehrer albums, pianist John Forster brings his sharp sense of humor to The Minstrel stage in Morris Township at 8 pm. Honor Finnegan, a darling of the Falcon Ridge Folk Festival, brings her ukulele and whimsical style as the opening act. Admission: $8, children 12 and under, free. At the Morristown Unitarian Fellowship, 21 Normandy Heights Road.

SUNDAY, NOV. 17:
 

You still have a couple more chances to visit the weekly Morristown Farmers Market,  which runs every Sunday through Nov. 24 from 8:30 am to 2 pm. It’s in municipal parking lot 10, behind the post office, and is operated by the Morristown Partnership.

Join the Morris County Historical Society at Acorn Hall and the Cosy Cupboard Tea Room of Convent Station for an afternoon of Downton Abbey grandeur! A one-hour tour of Acorn Hall will be followed by a five-course tea event at the Cosy Cupboard. While costumes are  not required, there will be prizes for the best ones! Tickets are $38 a person.

Take a Winter’s Journey in Song–and support NJ AIDS Services in Morristown–at a 3:30 pm concert featuring mezzo-soprano Deborah Fennelly and pianist David Maiullo. They will perform works by Barber, Berlin, Debussy, Poulenc, Respighi, Strauss and others at the Church of the Redeemer, 36 South St. Suggested Donations:  $25 (general),  $20 (seniors and students).
