Beethoven was the main course, and it was hearty and satisfying.

Ah, and the dessert was to die for!

Sebastián Forster, the Argentine virtuoso who now calls Morristown home, gave his new neighbors an evening on Saturday that they will long remember.

His benefit salon recital for the Macculloch Hall Historical Museum packed the Kellogg Club with more than 100 people, who paid up to $200 apiece to hear him break in his new Steinway on Beethoven’s Piano Sonata No. 5 in C minor and the master’s Appassionata.

For dessert, Sebastián transported the intimate gathering to South America for Buenos Aires Summer, a tasty tidbit from his late countryman, Astor Piazzolla.

Here is video of that performance.

A champion of Piazzolla’s music, Sebastián will lead a classical trio in a tribute in New York  on Oct. 11, 2013.
