Nathan Milun, 5, summed up Saturday’s Mayor’s Kid Fondo in Morristown:

“I didn’t get in first, but I didn’t care.”

It was all about having fun on wheels.  Kids pedaled a loop at the Vail Mansion, after volunteers helped them festoon their bikes with ribbons, flags and potato-head passengers.

Afterward, there was pizza and sandwiches and candy.

Sort of like the grownups’ Gran Fondo New Jersey, minus the hills.

Mayor Tim Dougherty officially started Saturday’s “race,” a precursor to Sunday’s extravaganza that is expected to attract hundreds of cyclists to town for rides ranging from 18- to 107-miles.

Here are some photos of the kids in action.  We’ll have plenty more from the Gran Fondo.
