Janier Acevedo, a rising star in the cycling world, will mingle with riders at the Gran Fondo NJ on Sept. 8, 2013, in Morristown.
The 27-year-old Colombian, who rides for Team Jamis-Hagens Berman, will be joined by top Argentine sprinter JJ Haedo.
“We at Jamis take enormous pride in supporting our incredible world-class athletes,” Carine Joannou, the president of Jamis Bicycles in Northvale, said in a statement.
“Not only are these guys phenomenal on a bike, they’re also friendly and approachable guys off the bike. Gran Fondo NJ is a perfect venue for the public to ride and chat with some of the superstars of the sport.”
Participants can choose between four routes, ranging from 18 to 107 miles, in this year’s Gran Fondo, now in its third year.
Gran Fondo is Italian for “big ride,” and that’s what it is. Not a race, but a happening on wheels. It was started by Marty Epstein of Marty’s Reliable Cycle in Morristown.
Marty and his business partner, Bill Ruddick, anticipate 2,500 cyclists this year.
Here is a statement with more details about the pro cyclists.
