Update on Morristown cinema closing: Bow Tie says it wants in

2

Bow Tie Cinemas said on Tuesday that the chain does want to replace Clearview at Morristown’s Headquarters Plaza, but so far it has been unable to make any headway with the landlord.

Cablevision is selling most of its Clearview theaters to Bow Tie but, as we reported on Monday, Morristown was not among them, and the 10-plex is scheduled to show its last movie on May 19.

Spokesman Chris Beattie issued this statement on behalf of Bow Tie:

“The lease on the Morristown theater ends shortly and it is up to the landlord to decide what he wants to do.  We have made extensive efforts to negotiate with the landlord and extend the lease, but we have been unsuccessful to-date.  We are still in discussions with the landlord and hope to be able to reach a mutually satisfactory agreement that will allow Bow Tie to serve the Morristown community.”

Headquarters Plaza was developed by the Olnick Organization and the Fisher Organization. It’s managed by the  Grubb & Ellis Co.

Christine Rothermel of Grubb & Ellis declined to comment, saying the matter is in the midst of negotiations.

  1. Closing the cinema would be a tragedy – my husband and I have frequented this theater for at least 20 years and has a special place in our hearts. Come on people – we need this cinema to survive !!!
