Auditions set for ‘Joseph’ at Mayo Center in February

Auditions of actors ages 7 through 21 for the Mayo Performing Arts Center‘s production of “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” will take place Feb. 7 and 10 at the theater at 100 South St. in Morristown. Four performances will be held May 31 through June 2, marking the first time the center has produced a musical for public presentation.

“Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” is an Andrew Lloyd Webber musical with lyrics by Tim Rice. The story is based on the “coat of many colors” story of Joseph from the Bible’s Book of Genesis.

The audition schedule is:

Feb. 7

4:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m., children ages 7-12 for children’s choir

Signup will begin at 4 p.m.

6:30 – 8:30 p.m. for ages 13 – 21

Signup will begin at 6 p.m.

Feb. 10

1-3 p.m., children ages 7-12 for children’s choir

Signup will begin at 12:30 p.m.

4- 7 p.m. for ages 13 – 21

Signup will begin at 3:30 p.m.

Auditioners should use the Education Studio entrance at 9 Pine St.

What to prepare:

Those ages 7-12 should prepare 16 bars of an uptempo song. Those ages 13 – 21 should prepare 16 bars of an uptempo song. Boys also should prepare 16 bars of a ballad. All are asked to bring sheet music in the appropriate key and memorize all lyrics.

Auditioners may sing from the “Joseph” score. Sheet music can be purchased online here or here.

Callbacks will be held Feb. 11-13 (specific dates and times to be scheduled).

Performance Dates:

May 31, 7:30 p.m.

June 1, 2 and 7:30 p.m.

June 2, 2 p.m.

Rehearsal schedule:

Most rehearsals initially are planned for Thursday evenings and Sunday afternoons. As the production get closer, performers will need to be available during the week. All cast members must be available from May 24-30 for tech rehearsals; the cast will rehearse during Memorial Day weekend.
