The first time we saw Ben Rhodes perform, he was off to one side, diligently playing bass for Charlie & the Vanilla Faces at Morristown’s Got Talent.

Now, several years and as many bands later, Ben takes center stage as a solo act.

On Dec. 14, 2012, at 5:30 pm, the Morristown singer-songwriter performs at the Morristown Deli on Elm Street, to launch the Battle of the Bands for First Night Morris 2013.

A graduate of Morristown High School, Ben, 22, is studying at Montclair State University. He took up the guitar eight years ago and has been writing songs for two years. He plans to release a CD of original tunes in the near future.

Last year, Ben competed in the Battle of the Bands with a group simply titled… UnTitled.  A few months earlier, he played with an ensemble called Nick Dickey at a local benefit for Alabama tornado victims.

With the Vanilla Faces, he also performed at the first MorristownGreen.com Music Festival, and he played Festival Earth with a spinoff trio, Electric Blue Sunrise.

The Battle of the Bands is open to teens and young adults. Top bands–as voted by you online–will play at First Night on New Year’s Eve. Top prize is $250 and free lessons at the Original Music School in Morristown.

On Dec. 21, the Angry Politicians will display their chops at the Morristown Deli.
