Chancery Square in Morristown is getting a makeover, and town officials like what they see so far.

“The building is beautiful. It is a wonderful addition to Morristown,”  Mayor Tim Dougherty said at a ribbon-cutting ceremony last week.

Hartz Mountain Industries, owners of the luxury apartment building at 11 Cattano Ave., have teamed with the Roseland Property Company, the people behind the 40 Park and Vail Mansion luxury condos, to renovate Chancery Square.

“We have completed 28 units thus far and we have only owned the building since August 2011,” said Allen J. Magrini, senior vice president of Hartz Mountain Industries. The upgrades are expected to be completed within a year.

Chancery Square consists of 129 units, of which 63 are one-bedroom and 66 are two-bedrooms. Rents range from $2200 for one bedroom to $2800 for two bedrooms, depending on the view and size.

“In the last two years we contracted and helped Hartz purchase the building,”  Brad Klatt, a developer for Roseland Properties, said during a “before and after” tour showcasing the changes under way.

“As each apartment is vacated Hartz is upgrading the individual living spaces to include floating hardwood floors to provide soundproofing between floors, and updating the spacious kitchens and bathrooms with high-end finishes and energy-efficient appliances to create a luxury lifestyle for its residents.”

The entryway of Chancery Square was remodeled to make a grand first impression, with new seating in rich colors and textures and an accent wall embellished with stonework imported from Greece.

Hallways all have updated carpeting, artwork and subtle paint colors, giving the building a modern yet calming décor.

The building also boasts keyless entry using fobs for locks on each unit, for additional security.

As part of the renovation the fitness center has been expanded and modernized with new equipment. A new club room and lounge includes a computer workstation, TVs, and a billiards table.

Eventually, the inside of all the elevators will be renovated, too, completing the look of this boutique apartment building.

The goal, according to Brenda Cioce, president of Roseland’s management company, is to  bring “a high level of living that creates a neighborhood that is more in keeping with the current Morristown community.”

That is music to Councilwoman Rebecca Feldman’s ears.

“It is terrific to see the state’s leading property owners investing so substantially in the town of Morristown,” the councilwoman said.
