The Tri-Harder Kids Triathlon gets under way on Saturday, July 14, 2012, at Ginty Pool in Morris Township, starting with registration at 7:30 am.

It’s the first of four such swim-bike-run events across Morris County this summer. All emphasize participation over winning, and are open to regional youths between ages 4 to 15 (if not in high school yet). Registration is $10.

Here are details:

FROM THE MORRIS TOWNSHIP PARKS & RECREATION DEPARTMENT:

The Morris Township Department of Parks and Recreation will host the first outing of a four event Tri-Harder Kids Triathlon for children ages 4 to 15 (if not in high school) on Saturday, July 14, 2012, beginning at Ginty Pool.

The event is designed to get children up and moving with healthy physical activity, training, and enjoyment. It features the typical swim-bike-run format of a traditional triathlon, with distances appropriate for five age groups: 4 to 6, 7 to 8, 9 to 10, 11 to 12, and 13 to 15. This event will feature age-appropriate swimming at Ginty Pool, a bicycling route through local neighborhoods, and distance runs at Ginty Field.

The focus of this Triathlon is on participation rather than competition; all participants will receive participation ribbons and only unofficial results are posted.

The events begin at 8:30 AM with check-in at 7:30 AM at the pool. All participants must pre-register; registration closes on July 12th at 5:00 PM. The cost is $10.00 per participant and the Triathlon is open to all regional area children. Participants must bring their own bicycles and bicycle helmets.

The Tri-Harder Kids Triathlon Series includes three other events in Morris County – Aug. 4 in Randolph, Au8. 18 in Denville Township and Aug. 25 in Chester Township. This Morris Township Kid’s Triathlon event is co-sponsored by the Township of Morris Police Department, Marty’s Reliable Cycle, and the Township of Morris Manatees Swim Team.
