Morristown High School artists to exhibit at Zebu

An exciting exhibition is coming to Morristown’s Zebu Forno café  on Jan. 22:  Eight artists from a very special mentoring program will be showing their work.

Here are details from the Lauren Elizabeth Failla Foundation:

The eight student artists of the Morristown High School Art Mentoring Program, funded by the Lauren Elizabeth Failla Foundation and run by the Arts Council of the Morris Area, will share their work with the public in the Gallery at Zebu Forno in Morristown. The Opening Reception will be Sunday, January 22nd, from 4PM-6PM, and will provide an opportunity to meet the artists and those that work behind the scenes as well as become a new supporter of the program through purchasing artwork of the students or making an earmarked donation to the Lauren Elizabeth Failla Foundation.

The Arts Council of the Morris Area’s Art Mentoring Program was the brainchild of Mira Morrison from the Morristown High School Art program. Morrison approached the Arts Council several years ago with the idea and has worked closely with Kadie Dempsey, Director of Arts in Community, to define and shape the program. The Lauren Elizabeth Failla Foundation chose to fund this program as a way to honor the foundation’s namesake, Lauren Failla, who had been an artist at Morristown High.

The Morristown High School Art Mentoring Program assists selected, highly talented art students who need additional support in refining their artistic skills, developing their own personal style and assembling a strong art portfolio, that, in turn, will enhance their ability to compete for admission into quality art schools, college, a career in visual arts and/or scholarship aid. Two professional artists meet with the students for 12 weeks in the Winter/Spring 2012 and 12 weeks in the Fall 2012. These mentors are Dan Fenelon, Madison and Susan Faiola, Morristown. Additionally, the students receive instruction in Art History, Life Drawing, Still Life Drawing and Computer Arts.

ZEBU Forno, Morristown’s Art Café, located at 9 South St., Morristown is pleased to host these artists in the Gallery.
