Video: Ladies, could you resist this man? A romantic tour de force at First Night in Morristown

Grab your hankies, ladies. Violinist Eddie Venegas sets the romantic bar very, very high in this video from First Night Morris on New Year’s Eve.

With help from his band, the Sweet Plantain Quartet, Eddie serenaded his girlfriend, Karin Anderson, with an achingly tender performance of Aldemaro Romero’s Serenata.

That alone was pretty memorable. But guaranteed, nobody who packed the Great Hall of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Morristown will ever forget what came next.

The evening was six years in the making. Eddie and Karin met at a salsa club in New York. A native of Caracas, Venezuela, Eddie came to the U.S. in the 1990s to study classical violin at Queens College. For kicks, he taught himself to play the trombone.

We don’t want to give away too much here, but Eddie was packing more than just his horn and violin at First Night. He brought something sparkly that once belonged to Karin’s great-grandmother. Karin’s parents were in attendance.

Again, we don’t want to spoil the outcome for you. Speaking strictly hypothetically, if this Serenata Surprise were to lead to another, uh, romantic ceremony around late summertime, it could be a pretty hot ticket.

We have a hunch we know who the band would be, and it sizzles. And Eddie moonlights for a fellow named Marc Anthony, while Karin works for Tony Bennett.
