Morristown police have charged a 43-year-old Morristown man with sexual assault for allegedly simulating a sexual act with a 10-year-old girl.
Jose Danilo Rodriguez Vanegas invited the girl inside his home to help clean her knee, which she scraped in a tumble off her scooter behind her dwelling, according to an affidavit by Morristown Police Officer Roberto Rosado.
When the girl bent over to show him the wound, the defendant rubbed against her “in order to simulate sex,” and attempted to kiss the girl, according to the affidavit. The girl fled when the man went to get a bandage for her knee, the officer reported.
The defendant denied any contact with the girl beyond assisting with her injury, Officer Rosado noted. A “citizen witness” called police to the scene, according to the officer’s affidavit.
Police arrested the defendant on Monday and charged him with one count of sexual assault and one count of endangering the welfare of a child. Superior Court Judge Stephan C. Hansbury set bail at $100,000, with no 10 percent cash option, and he prohibited the defendant from having any contact with the victim or with any children under 16.
Federal immigration officials have filed a detainer against the defendant, now lodged in the Morris County Jail, because they suspect he is in this country illegally, reports The Daily Record.
