Music Without Borders concluded its second summer season on the Morristown Green with colorful sights and sounds of India.

Titled India: Sounds of the North, Bells of the South, the Aug. 3 lunchtime show featured singers from the SwarVeena School of Music of Morris Plains and a dancer from the Shubanjali School of Performing Arts of Scotch Plains.

Astha Shukla sang lead vocals in songs welcoming the monsoon season. (Hours later, it rained!) Madhumita Parmar, who is just 16, danced tributes to the Hindu god Shiva and to India’s national bird, the peacock.

Music Without Borders is hosted by the Arts Council of the Morris Area and the Mayo Performing Arts Center. This year’s series sampled music from Colombia, the Balkans and China, in addition to India.
