We don’t know if organists have an equivalent to baseball’s legendary Shoeless Joe.

Is there a Shoeless Joe of the organ world? Let us know.

The great ones actually leave tough shoes to fill, according to John Walker, who demonstrated his organic prowess at Morristown’s Presbyterian Church during the regional convention of the American Guild of Organists.

Ballplayers, bowlers and ballerinas all need special shoes. So do organists, who must exhibit plenty of fancy footwork of their own, as this video clip attests.

John is music minister at Brown Memorial Park Avenue Presbyterian Church in Baltimore. He also teaches at the Peabody Conservatory of Music. He presented a Hymn Festival that included a choir of area singers and the Solid Brass ensemble.
