In celebration of Women’s History Month, the Morristown Neighborhood House will hold the Sixth Annual “Phenomenal Women” Awards Dinner this Thursday, March 24,  from 6:00pm to 8:00pm.

Registration is required for the evening, along with a $20.00 fee; registration is due by March 21.  Contact Perla Hayashida at (973) 538-1229, ext. 22, or e-mail her at Hayaship@neighborhood-house.org to register, or for more information.

This year’s honorees are Margret Brady, Blair Schliecher-Bravo, Stella Hart Grayson, and “Grow It Green Morristown” founders Samantha Rothman, Carolle Huber, and Myra McCready.  The Hon. Sheila Y. Oliver, New Jersey Assembly Speaker, will give the Keynote Address.

It should be a wonderful, warm, celebratory evening;  the registration fee includes a buffet supper.

The annual dinner and awards ceremony celebrates the accomplishments of “Phenomenal Women” who may not be household names.  Nominees are women who contribute to the Morris County community in a particular way;  they are women who serve as role models – not only for young women, but for all women.   Honorees are “creative, tenacious, unique, and spirited” – even, and perhaps especially, in adversity, says the nominating committee.

The Event Committee is composed of men and women from many and various walks of life and occupations:   Chairman Jane Kurek of Provident Bank; Mitchell Roers of United Way; Sibi Saenz-William of Morristown Memorial Hospital; Carol McKinney of VMC; Bette Simmons of The County College of Morris;  Denise Lanza of the Parks Commission; and Susan Waldman, Perla Hayashida and Steven Neblett of the Neighborhood House.

The Morristown Neighborhood House was founded in 1898 as a settlement house; in its early years it helped Italian immigrants become acclimated to a new culture.  The core mission hasn’t changed:  the Neighborhood House seeks to help new immigrants and also families confronting economic challenges, and to foster cross-cultural understanding.   For more information about Neighborhood House, see their website at www.neighborhood-house.org, or contact David Walker, Executive Director, at (973) 538-1229 ext. 26 or walkerd@neighborhood-house.org.

The Neighborhood House is at 12 Flagler Street in Morristown.  Additional parking for the Awards Dinner will be available at St. Margaret’s Church, at the corner of Speedwell & Sussex Avenue.
