Our Youth Their Future and People Helping People came together in Morristown on Saturday for a Black History Month celebration that was all about… coming together.
“We’re about bringing the community together,” said Toshiba Foster, who established Our Youth Their Future with a handful of Morristown moms last summer in response to a teen suicide.
The organization teamed with People Helping People– a nonprofit that helps people with disabilities find jobs– for an afternoon of inspirational speeches, music and food at the Manahan Village Residents Center.
“It’s all about bringing unity in the community and supporting our youths and families,” said Qadriyyah Sakhu, executive director of People Helping People.
Rasheedah Ziyad of People Helping People said the celebration of black heritage aims “to pass the baton to the next generation. Some work is required. A lot is being done.”
