If you couldn’t make it on New Year’s Eve — or if you attended and want to relive the festive feelings–here are some video highlights from First Night Morris County in Morristown.
The two-stringed fiddle played by Wang Guowei is an erhu, and the instrument’s resonator is made of snakeskin. His partner, Sun Li, is playing a pipa, an ancient Chinese lute. The pair call themselves the Music from China Duo.
We also caught up with Sharlys Dugan Leszczuk, the 16-year-old dynamo who did four shows on First Night–two with the Harmonium Choral Society and two with Dugan’s Hooligans, her family’s Celtic band.
In the video, Sharlys reveals how a high school homework assignment helped her prepare for the doubleheader…
Singer-songwriter Christine DeLeon and pianist Andrew Rosenblum also appear in the video.
Meanwhile, our crackerjack First Night team–including MG Kids reporters Carl Hausman and Alyse and Ashley Jefferson, and grownups Sharon Sheridan, Hal Crosthwaite, Paul Hausman, Crystal Jefferson and Bill Lescohier–came back with plenty of fun stories and photos.
Our thanks to them, and to Dr. Lynn Siebert of the Arts Council of the Morris Area for assembling an exceptional and eclectic roster of entertainers for the 19th annual First Night Morris County.
Let’s hope organizers can keep the tradition alive so everyone is celebrating a 20th anniversary next year.
