The Austin organ at Morristown’s Presbyterian Church on the Green can give a jet engine a run for its money. On its loudest day, The Who would have had a hard time out-decibeling this powerful instrument.
But organist Jim Hicks outdid himself on Friday. He had to, to be heard above the splendid Madison Brass ensemble. If your neighbors are oversleeping this morning, crank up this clip. In case they ask, it’s the “Marche Triomphale du Centainaire de Napoleon I, Op. 16,” by Louis Vierne.

The performance was part of the free Fridays-on-the-Green series. It concludes this Friday at noon with Jim soloing on the organ. His half-hour set will include a piece composed for him by a Swedish musician. Jim describes the piece in this podcast.
